| The IRC Nickserv Commands
Nickserv is what controls any commands that deal with your nick while on IRC. Be sure to REGISTER your nick as soon as you start using IRC. It's the first command listed on this page for easy reference. To use the commands, simply type them into the text box of the channel. (listed in alphabetical order) |
| register - /msg nickserv register password email - Registers your nick to the server. DO THIS RIGHT WHEN YOU JOIN IRC, BEFORE YOU USE ANY OTHER COMMANDS! This command will register the nick you are currently using as yours. Do not give out your password to anyone. This includes any OPs. If you decide to give out your password, be 100% SURE you trust this person.
drop - /msg nickserv drop nick - Drops a nick you have registered or is in your group. You must be currently identified as the owner of the nick before the drop command will work. A nick will drop, from the server, on it's own if not used for 21 days. ghost - /msg nickserv ghost nick password - Ghosts a registered nick of yours that is currently being used. Typical times you will need this, is if you get disconnected from IRC and your nick is still logged in. Or if another user changes their nick to your nick. glist - /msg nickserv glist - Displays a list of all nicks in your group (refer to group command). group - /msg nickserv group nick password - Groups a nick to your registered nick. This command can only be used with a registered nick. User this command instead of registering each new nick of yours. Grouping your nicks makes it easy to switch between nicks without having to identify every time. To use it successfully, use the /nick command to change to the new nick. Then use the group command supplying your registered nick and password. It woud look similar to this: /nick Bunni3_Two *You are now known as Bunni3_Two /msg nickserv group Bunni3 bunni3password *You now belong to the group Bunni3 identify - /msg nickserv identify password - Identifies you as the owner of your nick. Many stand alone clients have an option to do this for you. info - /msg nickserv info nick all - Displays available information about a nick, such as if they are currently online or when they were last seen. If you are currently identified and use this command on your own nick, you will be given all information about your nick. logout - /msg nickserv logout - This is the opposite of the identify command. You will not be recognized as the owner of your nick if the logout command is used. sendpass - /msg nickserv sendpass nick - Sends your password to the email address you provided when you registered. If you did not set an email address when registering, this command is useless. status - /msg nickserv status nick - Tells you if the given nick is recognized as the owner of the nick. Nickserv will give you a "status code" of 0, 1, 2, or 3. 0=no such nick online or nickname is not registered. 1=user not recognized as the nick's owner. 3=user recognized as owner via access list only. 4=user recognized as owner via password. If no nick is given, nick will return your own nick status. |

| set - /msg nickserv set [option] [parameters] - Set allows you to have more options available to you and your nick. Below are all [option]s available to use with the set command, and their [parameter]s.
set autoop - /msg nickserv set autoop on|off - This tells chanserv to automatically OP you in channels that you are on OP lists for. on|off will tell nickserv whether you want to turn the set autoop command on or off. You must select one of the two for this command to work. set display - /msg nickserv set display new-display - Changes the display nick that your nick group is known by. set email - /msg nickserv set email your@email.address - Associates an email address to your registered nick. Users will see it when they use the info command on your nick. set greet - /msg nickserv set greet message - Sets a greet message to your registered nick. When you enter a channel that has the greet command enabled, a public greet message to/for you will be displayed in the channel. set hide - /msg nickserv set hide email|status|usermask|quit on|off - Allows you to be able to hide certain information from users who use the info command on your nick. on|off will tell nickserv whether you want to turn the set hide command on or off. You must select one of the two for the command to work. email will hide your email associated with your registered nick. status will hide your services status. usermask will hide your last seen hostmask from your registered nick. quit will hide your last quit message on IRC. set icq - /msg nickserv set icq icq# - Associates an ICQ number to your registered nick. Users will see it when they use the info command on your nick. set kill - /msg nickserv set kill on|off|quick|immed - Places protection on your registered nick. on will alert anyone who tries to use your nick that they have 60 seconds to either identify with the nick password or change nicks. If they fail to identify or change nicks, nickserv will change their nick by force. quick reduces the 60 seconds to 20 seconds before nickserv changes the nick. Selecting immed will make nickserv immediately change the nick, without warning of any kind. Using immed is not a suggested idea, as it could prevent you from being able to use your own nick. You must supply on, off, quick, or immed for this command to work. set language - /msg nickserv set language # - Changes the language that chanserv/nickserv responds to you in. Choose a number between 1 and 13. 1=English, 2=French, 3=German, 4=Italian, 5=Portuguese, 6=Spanish, 7=Turkish, 8=Catalan, 9=Greek, 10=Dutch, 11=Russian, 12=Hungarian, and 13=Polish. set msg - /msg nickserv set msg on|off - Allows you to choose how chanserv/nickserv will communicate with you. on|off will tell nickserv whether you want to turn the set msg command on or off. You must select one of the two for the command to work. When set msg is on, chanserv/nickserv will communicate to you using private message boxes. When it is off, chanserv/nickserv will use notices. set password - /msg nickserv set password new-password - Changes the password accociated with your registered nick. set private - /msg nickserv set private on|off - When the set private command is turned on, your nickname will not appear when someone uses the list commands. on|off will tell nickserv whether you want to turn the set private command on or off. You must select one of the two for the command to work. set secure - /msg nickserv set secure on|off - Adds more security to your registered nick. on|off will tell nickserv whether you want to turn the set secure command on or off. You must select one of the two for the command to work. When set secure is on, you MUST use the identify command to be recognized and the nick's owner. set url - /msg nickserv set url http://url - Associates a URL to your registered nick. Users will see it when they use the info command on your nick. |
