Did you stumble into the TNN chat and get confused by the lingo? Were you reading the chat help pages and got lost in the terms? Here you can find some of the IRC lingo that is used on the chat help pages, and used while you are in chat. (listed in alphabetical order) |
| #channel - Anytime you see # followed by text, it represents a "channel". All channels on IRC have # in front of them. Some channel examples are #thenethernet-help, #thenethernet.com, or #google.com.
AOP - AOP stands for AutoOP. AOPs manage HOP, VOP, and all basic users. The founder and SOPs are the users that can manage the AOP list. AOP status is automatic when the user enters the channel. botserv - Botserv is what controls eeyoree, the bot. channel - A channel is a room you connect to on the server. You chat with players on channels. chanserv - Chanserv is what controls IRC commands within a channel you registered and/or are an OP in. command - A command is a string of text you type into the chat. A command will instruct IRC to follow out an order you want. Refer: Syntax founder - A founder is the player that registered the channel, and has full control the a channel. HOP - HOP stands for HalfOP. HOPs have the ability to kick, ban, and voice basic users. HOP status is automatic when the user enters the channel. IRC - Acronym for Internet Relay Chat. irc.thenethernet.com - The network/server that the client connects to. nick - Nick refers to the nick name/screen name that you use while on IRC. Example is "Bunni3", which is the nick I use on IRC. nickserv - Nickserv is what controls IRC commands dealing with your nick. OP - An OP is a player that has privledges with in a channel. OPs are channel operators/moderators. SOP - SOP stands for SuperOP. SOPs manage AOP, HOP, VOP, and all basic users. The founder is the only user that can manage the SOP list. SOP status is automatic when the user enters the channel. ServerOP/IRCop - IRCops are the network/server operators. In the case of irc.thenethernet.com, burdenday is the IRCop. IRCops control the entire server, and everything on it. This includes all channels. Syntax - Is the specfic term of the text that instructs IRC to follow through with an order. Also referred to as a "command". Voice - Voice allows the user to still chat on a channel that is set +m. VOP - VOP stands for VoiceOP. VOPs are automatically given voice upon joining the channel. |
