| The IRC Basic Commands
Listed here are basic IRC commands that are not used in conjuction with chanserv, nickserv, or botserv. To use the commands, simply type them into the text box of the channel. (listed in alphabetical order) |
| away - /away Eating dinner - Sets an away message to your nick. Any user who does a whois on your nick will see the away message.
ban - /ban nick - Bans the user from the channel. ctcp - /ctcp nick version - (not available on the toolbar client) Requests information about what client a user is using. invite - /invite nick #channel - Invites a user to a channel. join - /join #channel - Joins a channel. You can join an existing channel or create your own channel. kick - /kick #channel nick reason - Kicks a user from the channel. Reason is optional. list - /list - (not available on the toolbar client) Pulls up a list of all active public channels on the server. Private and secret channels will not be shown in this list. me - /me does an action - Preforms an action in the channel. Actions will look similar to the following: *Bunni3 is showing off her leet skills msg - /msg nick message - Sends a message to another user. Opens a separate window to the user receiving the message. Depending on the client, can also open a separate window for you as well. nick - /nick YourNewNick - Sets your nick on the server. Nicks cannot contain spaces. Some characters can not be used. notice - /notice nick message - Sends a message to another user. Simliar to /msg however does not open a separate window. part - /part #channel leaving message - Exits you from the channel, but not from the server. Leaving message is optional. ping - /ping nick - (not available on the toolbar client) Pings the user. quit - /quit leaving message - Disconnects you from the server, including any channels you are in. Leaving message is optional. unban - /unban nick - Unbans the user from the channel. whois - /whois nick - (not available on the toolbar client) Shows the available information about a nick currently connected to the server. whowas - /whowas nick - (not available on the toolbar client) Shows information of a nick that is no longer connected to the server. |
